Adapted from "You Still Don't Understand" by drD and Nancy Ann Davis. i. Blindly Off Track
The relationship revolution was supposed to overturn stifling conventions and free men and women to be ourselves and to love more fully. Instead, we find that we are each becoming more "me" oriented and that our relationships are briefer and more contentious. <> A recent survey finds that 33% of women "often or very often" resent men, while 14% of men often resent women. By our careful calculations, that is a truckload of resentment. <> 40% of American children are born to single mothers, and the two-parent family is becoming an alternative lifestyle <> Women report significantly more unhappiness today than women 35 years ago (compared to men). How were we so blindsided by all of this?
ii. The Masquerades
< >Propagandists insists that men and women are basically the same, while researchers find vast and surprising differences between the sexes. We are not cookie-cutter copies of one another. We begin here where Mars and Venus leaves off, and take you to the outter reaches of human passions and subtle realms of relationship battle tactics. < > Social proprieties promote accepted views but conceal whole realms of relationships. We try here to be candid and forthright, and invite you to consider the wild and woolly beasts that still beat in our primal hearts. < > Dual standards continue everywhere, although idealists expect us to treat men and women the same. We want to protect women against bad men, while we expect men to take care of themselves. Is it any wonder that most of us still don't understand? iii. Sensible Individuals Make Sensible MatesOur actions make sense in important ways, even when we are mistaken or misguided. Many of our patterns were reasonably functional in earlier times but are now maladaptive in modern culture. Appreciate here our reasonably sensible reasoning. You will see how you make more sense than you ever imagined.
